Plan on buying another next month.

Battery loses charge

Last day of June 2014 took my Vanagon for Highway ride.  It rode smooth and ran good.  Pick up a friend on way back to take her to store. Had to wait 10 mins and then the  battery fail to turn over.  Had her push it backward 10 ft to jump start.  Need to do wiring check for short circuits, buy another used battery for backup jumps, and buy a battery charge.

Happens again in August, I think I might have wrong battery.  Going to clean electrical terminals on starter, fuse box connection, and Alternator.

Washed roof of the Vanagon, remove lots of crud.

 Today it was starting and running rough.

Change distribute cap and rotors - still ran fast.  Notice loose fitting on throttle hose, when I push it in the engine ran lot better.  Need to clean entire throttle housing.

Now it time to camping and fishing!

Removing A/C radiator from the bottom, found water in wiring going to radiator fan.

Re install coolant radiator

Test drive, now coolant red light goes out.

Heater Fan Wiring

Heater fan would run all the time, as if it was by-pass at switch.  Removed fuse panel and found relay panel and a hot wire for fan circuit.  Disconnect long red wire at yellow connector and fan stop running.  Going to check radiator fan circuit next.

Next project, to figure out why it is so hard to shift in 1st or 2nd gear.  Going to remove front tire carrier and check out gear selection box.

Seats removed

Remove middle seats because they don't fold down.  Two bolts and slide out of a track. Planning to make wooden bench as a bed extension.

I then spray rust oil everywhere on engine

Richard's Bronze Vanagon GL

This is my 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon GL that I brought May 2014.  After spending 3 days of trying to get it running, I drove it home.  Had to replace fuel filter, air filter, and sparkplugs, these parts were hard to find locally.                                                                                                                                                      
Future project plans;
fix front heater wiring, fan runs all the time

Clean bottom of engine and replace exhaust muffler and tailpipe.
